Dr Mike Callan
Dr Mike Callan is the Chief Executive of Judospace Ltd, and Principal of the Judospace Educational Institute. He is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Essex, and formerly Senior Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, and the International Federation Services Group Leader for Judo for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Previously he was Sports Development Manager and Director of Judo at the University of Bath. Currently Mike is a Didactic and Scientific Expert with the European Judo Union. He was elected as President of the International Association of Judo Researchers in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, and as Secretary General and Treasurer of the Commonwealth Judo Association in Singapore in 2010. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity. Formerly Mike has been a Board Member of the British Bob-Skeleton Association, a Board Member of the British Judo Association, and an External Verifier for Edexcel. He competed in the World University Judo Championships in Warsaw in 1980, and was the British Judo Champion in 1975.
He has; a PhD relating to support for judo players in an educational environment, from the University of Bath, a BSc Honours in Ergonomics from Loughborough University, a Diploma in Management from Reading University, a Certificate in Teaching from Newbury College, and Units D32, D33 and D34 as an Assessor and Internal Verifier. He has a Diploma in Itsutsu-no-kata from the Kodokan Judo Institute. He was awarded the International Olympic Committee Diploma in 2001 and the International Judo Federation Special Recognition Award in 2009. He holds the grade of 7th Dan.
